In recent years, the world has witnessed an alarming trend – heatwaves are growing more common, intense, and longer-lasting.
The implications of this trend are dire, with some regions on the brink of becoming uninhabitable.
While all high heat is damaging, it's the often overlooked villain of "moist heat" that poses a particularly insidious threat to human survival.
This is something I didn’t know or understand.
You may not have heard much about it, but the dangers it presents are very real and that’s why I’m sharing this.
When we think of extreme heat, we often imagine scorching dry climates.
However, moist heat, laden with humidity, is a silent assassin.
It sabotages our body's natural cooling mechanisms and puts our lives in peril.
Ordinarily, when we sweat, the moisture on our skin evaporates, bringing relief as our bodies cool down.
But in environments with high humidity, this process is severely compromised.
The sweat clings to our skin, refusing to evaporate, and we become trapped in a dangerous struggle to maintain a safe internal temperature.
The consequences of our inability to combat extreme moist heat are especially dire for those living in densely populated, humid tropical, and subtropical regions.
These picturesque areas, with their lush landscapes and vibrant cultures, face an unprecedented threat to turning Earth's tropical havens into inhospitable nightmares.
It's a race against time, and the stakes are high.
We can find a way to mitigate all extreme heat.
The future of our planet and the safety of millions hang in the balance.
Tomorrow I’ll address what may be one of the simple solutions along with continuous combined effort to drop overall temperatures.
