Encasement System vs Roof Replacement
U.S. Marine Corps Air Station
Iwakuni, Japan - Central Distribution Center
Before After
The Challenge:
This large DeCA warehouse, which stores valuable goods for the US military, had a badly failing roof with over 110 documented leaks. These leaks were damaging the stored consumer products. The presence of moisture from the leaking roof was also causing harmful mold and mildew, contributing to the destruction of the warehoused products.
The GSA client looked at the overall cost of roof replacement and they found that it would be cheaper to tear down and replace the building instead of tearing off and replacing the roof, considering the relocation of personnel, stored product and building downtime involved with a roof tear off. When the GSA customer heard about GLOBAL Encasement, Inc. coating system, they chose it over a more invasive and costly roof removal and replacement.

Results:
The surface preparation involved removing the loose, scaling rust with mechanical abrasion, then washing all the surfaces clean. Once everything dried, the rusty surfaces were spot treated with R.I.P.™ Rust Inhibiting Primer. All holes were then filled with Globe Caulk and the gaps were sealed with GEI Seam Tape. Finally, 32 mils DFT of Your Last Coat™ was applied to complete the system. Installing a nondisruptive Your Last Coat™ system saved considerable time and money.
