CH#007 - The Nyack Center

The Nyack Center
Nyack, NY

The Challenge:

This 1839 Greek Revival style former Presbyterian Church was being converted to a multi-use community facility for the town of Nyack. All of the exterior surfaces were in a hazardous condition, covered with badly delaminated Lead-Based Paint, that left the building exposed to weatherization and water damage. In addition, one façade was less than a foot from the street and would create a containment challenge during abatement.

Concerns:

In addition to the abatement containment challenge, officials were concerned that any sandblasting or removal methods would adversely affect the fragile historic architectural details. The needed assurance that any methodology used to abate the problem would restore the exterior surfaces while maintaining and enhancing the historical significance of the building.
