Waterproofing FAQ
- 01. How can an acrylic coating be good waterproofing?
- These materials are actually a U.L. Approved waterproof membrane and liquid roofing system. Unlike other coatings, GLOBAL Encasement, Inc. materials breathe, and have excellent elongation and flexibility. They can move with the substrate and have the ability to allow moisture vapor to be released without cracking. The coatings are intelligent in that they have memory, and can reattach themselves to the substrate.
- 02. Is your waterproof topcoat the finish coat or must it be coated over?
- GLOBAL Encasement, Inc. TopCoats are finish coatings manufactured in bright white and can be custom tinted to almost any color.
- 03. I have an older building and am interested in waterproofing the exterior. I have heard that I am not supposed to seal the exterior entirely but leave a crack at the bottom so that water vapor can be allowed to escape instead of being trapped under the paint causing it to peel up and fail. Your Guidelines specify seamless systems. Is your product right for my particular application?
- It is correct that GLOBAL Encasement, Inc. specifies its products should be installed as seamless systems. Our products would be right for this particular application and this is why:
GLOBAL Encasement, Inc.'s systems form seamless and breathable membranes. Breathable means that the products allow for vapor transmission. Water vapor is allowed to escape through a semi-permeable membrane much like skin. In extreme cases the system may form bubbles. These bubbles should not be popped or smoothed out. The product is doing what it is supposed to do. It is allowing trapped moisture to escape. The product has superior flexibility and elongation and can expand and contract. When the area dries the system will re-adhere to the substrate leaving it as smooth as it was to begin with.
Exception: GLOBAL Encasement, Inc. recommends that any leaks caused by deteriorating roofing or plumbing be repaired and water damaged building materials be replaced before the application of a GLOBAL Encasement, Inc. system.
